Dear Governor Sindh, Chief Minister and I.G. Police,
Sindh Government cars
Unlawful, Fake and Excessive
As an ordinary citizen, with little interest and no expertise in vehicle engineering, may I bring the following aspects of vehicular mis-governance to your kind notice.
a. The unprecedented large number of government vehicles purchased at the taxpayers’ expense.
b. The incomprehensibly large number of fake and fraudulent government vehicles that besides being a huge embarrassment could also be potential instruments of crime and lawlessness.
Sindh Governor House unlawful cars:
It was painful to discover on the morning of February 13, 2025, a fake Sindh Governor House vehicle GH-0065, being driven on the streets of Karachi. The vehicle is unregistered, has never paid any road tax and is not reflected in E&T records. Two such unlawful vehicles had already been previously reported to the Sindh Governor House.
• GH-0002, a BMW but registered as Mercedes Benz in E&T records.
• GH-0063, a Governor House unregistered vehicle that has never paid any road tax and is also not reflected in E&T records.
The fact that out of a fleet of about 40 Governor House cars, three were discovered to be carrying illegal number plates by a random unconcerned citizen, raises questions and concerns about the magnitude of lawlessness and mismanagement of government vehicles.
Sindh Police fake cars
Also on February 13, 2025, SPA-324 a Suzuki Mehran was spotted in Clifton, bearing a fake and unregistered police number plate. No records were available in E&T department and no road tax had ever been paid. Eight similar lawless vehicles had been previously pointed out and mentioned to the I.G. Police in the last 8 months. To illustrate a few examples, SPA-467, a Sindh Police official Toyota Corolla (registered in E&T records as a Bolan Suzuki) was found being driven in Lahore. BZ-4466 is a private car that falsely says, “Sindh Police” on its number plate. SP-286A a private car carrying a fake police number plate was abandoned in the Sea View waters, while another car also bearing a fake police number plate was recovered from the home of the culprit.
It is estimated that 400 to 500 such private vehicles freely roam around in the province, impersonating as Sindh Police vehicles.
Can I request that the entire fleet of government cars, (perhaps sponsored by hugely underpaid sanitation workers of SSWMB), be reduced to one-fourth of its existing size and brought within the ambit of Excise & Taxation laws. This would set a great tradition and an example of the much-needed voluntary austerity – that could then be emulated by all other Governors, Chief Ministers and bureaucrats across Pakistan.
Respectfully,
Naeem Sadiq
